Marlins Promote Top Prospects

The time has come for top outfield prospects Christian Yelich and Jake Marisnick. While their arrival and immediate insertion to the starting lineup is something fans have wanted to see for sometime, their arrival comes at a cost. The cost, though, is being paid by fellow rookies Marcell Ozuna and Derek Dietrich.

Yelich, 21, was rated Baseball America’s No. 15 prospect in the game before the season began. The left-handed hitter has struggled with injuries this season, but has hit .280/.365/.518 with seven homeruns and 29 RBI for Double-A Jacksonville. Yelich, who had two hits and an RBI in this year’s All-Star Futures Game, will man left field, pushing the slumping Justin Ruggiano from the lineup and further obscuring Juan Pierre’s role on the team.

Marisnick, 22, was rated Baseball America’s No. 64 prospect. He was acquired in the massive trade with the Blue Jays last winter, and has played well for Double-A Jacksonville. Marisnick is hitting .294/.358/.502 with 12 homeruns and 46 RBI. Marisnick will start in center field, the position vacated by Marcell Ozuna.
